1957 - (¡Eh la Mujer!!! Fresh out of the New York City hospital after an auto accident that had me in bed for more than seven months, this was my first recording session after all the trauma of recovery and physical rehab... I was still on crutches and periodic pain pills and my self confidence was shot to hell. I wasn't sure that I knew exactly what I was looking for with this song.... I just knew that I didn't want it to sound like every other mariachi record on the radio.... As my father said, "It was just a part of my learning curve (which was a long slow process)." Chico and my 'Hermanos' gave me all the support that I needed to find my way back..... and Mom was ALWAYS there..... And I guess maybe Mitch Miller was right about me being 'An arrogant little bastard,' but I never would have survived otherwise....
