'Kansas Summer Sun' is really not about Kansas. As an abandoned child, adopted by a Mexican couple who were in the entertainment business, I grew up in the heart of the San Joaquin Valley in Madera, California. My father Francisco "Frank" Mayorga taught me to play the guitar, and my mother Lupe Mayorga (Yes, the Mexican movie actress) gave me unconditional love and values to live by... As a child, I encountered many migrant workers who had one thing in common... no matter where they came from, they all had a bit of 'homesickness' about them. I never 'disrespected' those workers or my mom and dad would have come at me like 'gangbusters.' And one summer my parents had me work in the fields to learn what it was really like.... At one time or another we all yearn to go home, and that's what this little song is about.... going home. The pictures are just old friends and old pictorial memories of Madera that I still hold dear... And a big thanks to my best friend Del Shannon, for convincing me to record this one myself.
